Summer at St John’s
St John’s School is delighted to be hosting a two-week Summer Camp in 2026 offering a unique and transformative experience for students aged 12–17 from around the world.
Set in the beautiful seaside town of Sidmouth in Devon, the programme combines high-quality English language learning with engaging activities, cultural discovery and opportunities to make lasting international friendships. Students stay with carefully selected local host families throughout their time in England, enjoying a safe, supportive and immersive home-away-from-home experience.
2 week Summer Camp
Our Summer Camp brings together students from many different countries (including native speakers from the UK) for an enriching experience that helps improve English skills and builds confidence, independence and intercultural understanding.
St John’s School provides excellent facilities and a welcoming community setting. While English lessons form a core part of the programme, students also enjoy a variety of activities and excursions designed to encourage teamwork, creativity and natural use of English in everyday life.
Sidmouth itself offers a unique coastal backdrop — from its scenic shoreline and beaches to nearby countryside and heritage sites — making it the perfect location for a summer learning adventure.
Why choose St.John’s?
• A vibrant international community welcoming students from across the world
• High-quality English language lessons delivered in an engaging, communicative way
• A structured yet fun programme of activities and excursions
• Immersion in British life with experienced, trusted host families
• A safe, supportive environment with strong pastoral care throughout
Accommodation with Host Families
Instead of staying on site, students in 2026 will be placed with carefully vetted local host families in the Sidmouth area. Each host is selected through a thorough safeguarding and suitability process to ensure comfort, safety and a positive experience.
Staying with a host family means students:
• Experience day-to-day life in England
• Have regular opportunity to practise English naturally outside classes
• Enjoy a supportive family environment throughout the programme
Students may be placed individually or with another Summer Camp student depending on preferences and availability.
English Language Learning
English lessons are a core part of the camp programme. Students are placed in classes based on ability and benefit from lively, interactive lessons focused on developing:
• Confidence and fluency in speaking
• Listening and comprehension skills
• Practical vocabulary and grammar use
• Ability to communicate in everyday situations
Class activities include discussions, group work, real-world topics and collaborative tasks that help students use English with confidence.
Activities & Cultural Experiences
Beyond the classroom, students take part in a varied programme of activities designed to build friendships and encourage use of English in fun, practical settings. Activities and experiences may include:
• Sports, games and team challenges
• Creative group workshops
• Beach fun
• Local cultural visits and excursions
These experiences are structured to be enjoyable, sociable and well supported by staff throughout the day.
Pastoral Care & Safety
Student wellbeing is central to the Summer Camp. A dedicated team of staff provide guidance, supervision and pastoral support from arrival through to departure.
Our approach to student care includes:
• Clear routines and daily support
• Experienced staff available for guidance at all times
• Regular communication between host families, staff and families
• Strong safeguarding procedures in place throughout the programme
Parents can be confident that their child is supported every step of the way.
