About St John’s
St John’s School, Sidmouth is an independent day and boarding school in Devon for boys and girls aged 2 -18. The school is located on a hill overlooking the sea in the beautiful Regency town of Sidmouth and benefits from excellent facilities including beautiful historic buildings, extensive grounds and playing fields, indoor sports hall, adventure playground and tennis courts.
With its warm, happy atmosphere, St John’s prides itself on providing a caring and safe environment for all its students. Most importantly, it is large enough to offer a broad study programme yet small enough to retain a special family feel that is valued by our students, parents and staff alike.
Throughout their school life at St John’s, our students are encouraged to be inquirers. For us it’s not about learning by rote, it’s about teaching our students how to find things out for themselves, encouraging them, stimulating them, supporting them and then letting them fly. It’s an approach that starts at the very beginning of their school journey and continues long after they leave us.
St John’s Nursery provides a high-quality day care facility through its Early Bird department and a more structured pre-school environment in its nursery class. Nursery is located in a separate area of School but benefits from the main school facilities. Early Years Vouchers are accepted.
St John’s is one of only 14 schools in the UK and the only school in the South West of England authorised to teach the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP focuses on the development of the child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. Students follow six transdisciplinary themes that are of global significance to us all.
The Senior School offers an integrated programme based on the National Curriculum, combined with a series of individual and theme-based projects to investigate and extend all topics, culminating in IGCSEs in Year 11. Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds and is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide.
Sixth Form at St John’s provides students with access to a comprehensive range of A and AS Level courses across a wide range of subjects, in a small class, tutorial style environment.
St John’s offers a wide range of flexible study options for international students, ranging from Short Courses, through to full inclusion in mainstream school. Most importantly, we aim to help students realise their potential, whether they are staying with us for one term or for the whole of their school life.
